The Auckland Saxophone Quartet (ASQ) will be joined by special guests Rosie Langabeer, piano, Trevor Thwaites, drums and Stu Johnstone, bass, at the Auckland Jazz and Blues Club this week.
Drawing inspiration from Duke Ellington, Fela Kuti, Miles Davis and Alice Coltrane they have put together an evening of originals and standards with that curios ethno-world-jazz flavour that comes from the fusion of cultures past and present.
The ASQ, founded in the 1990s, is currently comprised of multi-instrumentalist and composer Jim Langabeer, rounded out by Nicola Haddock, baritone sax, Markus Fritsch, tenor sax, and Miles Tremlett, alto sax.
