Where the heat overwhelms you and the music surrounds you – if you’re out on the street for any festival you’re gonna catch sight of a second line umbrella. Originating from the Jazz Funerals of the 1800’s they have a special place in the rich cultural history of New Orleans. For First Thursday’s we’re doing a bit of respectful appropriation to prepare you for the summer sun. Come decorate an umbrella with second line beads, tinsel, ribbons and fabric, then take it to the streets for a li’l dancing. BYO UMBRELLA APPRECIATED but we will have some available.

Twice as Nice Markets “Two Markets, one night, same block!” The legendary La Gonda Market in La Gonda Arcade, 203 K Road and The Bread and Butter Letter’s Garage Sale Markets at 225 K Road, are pairing up for a night of Christmas shopping goodness. The two spaces will host clothing sales, craft and bric-a-brac between each other! These markets will be an event you’ll want to mark on the map since there is so much up for grabs!
Blush Gallery La Gonda Arcade 203 K Road “69 Selfies” This will be a show where Blush invite interesting people to send them a selfie with a work title. The gallery will then get them printed out with their title and put them around the room. The event is a merging of cyberspace and IRL.

“Beresford Square Winebar, The Station and The Wingman” combine for a night of music and dance on the square. Swing to the sounds of a four-piece band comprising drums (Trev), bass (Stu), saxophones (Jim) and keys (Craig) . New Orleans Under $10 menu at Wingman: Roast beef poboy, southern fried chicken, blackened fish taco with black beans and corn salsa, pulled pork burger and Cajun fries. The Station is creating Cajun pizzas and Sazerac cocktails; the official cocktail of Orleans. Watch out for pendant tree baubles adding a bit of sparkle to the atmosphere.

We were so excited for the Autumn of Love. K Road returned to the glory days of the Sixties for a First Thursdays celebrating all that was mod, jazzy and snazzy. But because this is K Road, we were all about celebrating the hippies and the rockers too!
